Eniovden, Kupala Night, the flower magic
Have you ever heard about flower magic?
In a lot of Slavic countries they celebrate Kupala night, that is in the middle of June.
Where? In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria and a lot more
What do people do during Kupala Night? They wear flower wreaths, jump over fires and bath naked in rivers and lakes.
What did people do in Bulgaria in the 15th century? People deeply believed in the magic of flowers. Herbs were celebrated as the source of healing power. The herbs were waved into the flower wreaths.
What is Eniovden and the number 77 and half? Eniovden is a fertility festival celebrated on 24th of June. In Bulgaria, the holiday is connected with festivals, feasts, dancing, jumping, bonfires, fortune-telling, herb-picking and ritual bathing. 77 and a half herbs are waved into the wreaths.
Why do they need protection? They want protection from fairies and dragons
