La Befana is an Italian folk witch who delivers gifts to the kids. She loves sweets, chocolates. She also brings snow, if the chocolate is great. 

And that is the reason for the Spring season skiing in Italy :)

La Befana symbolizes the end of Winter and the beginning the Spring. But if the kids give her a lot of chocolate, she loves to bring a lot of snow.
